another one
another self portrait journal page....
this piece started out as a simple pencil drawing, that i was planning on leaving as a pencil drawing... alas, many layers of acrylic paint later and here it is, somewhere between layers is a vibrant layer of crimson red paint.
... this page was only scraped once... okay, maybe twice. the whole time i felt like it just needed something...
there, much better!
for tomorrow's self portrait i am going to use collage only... yikes.
i am already looking forward to being done with these...
and whose idea was this?
next week? i am going to focus on COLOR! one a day!
care to join me?
a few have asked what kind of paint i am using?
i love everything about GOLDEN heavy body acrylic paints, fluid work wonderfully, too. this morning i ordered a few tubes of gouache to give a try... ever tried it?
~
today i am listening to the voice of Dar Williams...

Thank you all again for being here, posting your pages, stepping outside your comfort zone, and joining me! i am just loving all of your pages so much!

Thank you for mentioning my blog Misty. Your work is so inspiring. It pushes me to go further with mine. To step over those boundries. I am thoroughly enjoying this crusade into 2009.

another amazing and inspiring work, misty...each and every page shows so much opening...what inspires me most is how you are willing to look into yourself and really see...and how this so amazingly comes out in the artwork you create...
as another hurdle looms...i'm trying to overcome fear about a loaded paintbrush and self portraits...i wonder if you might have any resources or books to recommend just to give myself a gentle nudge in the direction of courage :)

Yes! Bring on the COLOR! What do you use to scrape your paintings with?

help...i have some self portraits started...need to photo and post what i have, but i am just feeling sooooo much like i don't have time to really focus on making art...eeking in moments here and there, but i am soooooo slow and i find myself wanting to "keep up" with everyone. *sigh* i know its not a competition, but just feeling, so unqualified to be here...
so much inspiration and i think, i could do that, but i'd have to quit life...advice on how you juggle it all?

I had to step away from the face today, but have ideas for tomorrow. This winter has not been kind to my features, so I will look to the past.
I like that you take different approaches & dare to show them to us.

That's some great texture!
I wonder what colour you'll start with? Exciting. :)
I'm really enjoying everyone's work! The flickr group is fantastic.

Funky glasses are FUN! The spotlight artists are really inspiring...maybe the nudge I needed to grab a pencil with wild abandon and GO FOR IT! I am a Dar lover...thanks for the reminder!

Gouache is just like watercolor, but opaque. It will lift if you try to
layer it..which is sometimes a good thing to play with. I like to put down a layer of pencil, then watercolor, then pump up the music with some gouache. I have a special love for some of the metallic gold colors. You can also thin it and use it in a broad pen nib to write with..lots of fun actually..and cleans up quite easy..especially if you have a bad habit of walking away from your brushes and pens like some folks...that would be me.....

Misty, I have a new musician I think you'll like. Lior. He's an Israeli-born Australian. You'll find him on youtube, check him out!

These are wonderful. I love the second one, those glasses are so cute. Reminds me of my Aunt. She still wears that style frame now and then. I love them. I still have not had the courage to try a SP. My question is what do you do iwth the paint you scrape away?

I think your collage works much better with the paint you added! Why NOT break the rules you set for yourself? Maybe the crossing of borders is where we grow (as artists as well as in life...?)

gouache -- i am not good with it -- doesn't dry fast enough for me.
